Malvern Link Youth Choir is a fun-filled session of music making.

We use ‘do re mi’ to teach accurate singing of intervals in a natural and developmental way. The approach uses whole body actions to reinforce learning, and the children learn to recognise intervals aurally, so that they can record them onto a music stave, or to read them from a music score and sing them with confidence.

Musicianship entails so much more than playing an instrument. These sessions allow children to develop musical skills so that their inner ear develops along with their music reading. They become able to learn by ear, learn by rote, or play from a score. They can also record what they hear and learn to harmonise through their inner hearing.

The sessions are filled with musical games and great songs, so it’s a great way to make friends too. If children follow the scheme through they can receive a certificate recognised by the Associated Board of the Royal School of Music equivalent to their grade five music theory exam. Children from Malvern Link Youth Choir gain confidence and skills through the Kodaly method.

The choir follows the internationally recognised format of the National Youth Choir of Scotland, and the children have the opportunity to gain certified qualifications through this scheme. The children also have the opportunity to complete Royal School of Church Music awards, for which they receive a medal at each stage.
